Troubled Water chronicles a 36-day, 425-mile journey on standup paddleboards along the Great Lakes. The film is directed by Davis Huber and produced by William Wright and Chris Yahanda.

The idea was sparked by the three friends on their summer paddle trip down Michigan’s west coast. Chris received a text alert that a judge had temporarily shut down Line 5 after Canadian oil company Enbridge failed to abide by the State’s shutdown order. As the sun set over Lake Michigan, these lifelong friends couldn’t help but wonder, “How can any Michigander stomach the risk of an oil spill on this coastline?”

Inspired to do something, they created a film to shed light on the manmade impacts of Michigan's freshwater, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline, which carries nearly 23 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids daily beneath the Straits of Mackinac.

    SPEAKERS

Your Summit name badge awaits! Please check in and pick up a badge and lanyard at the registration table.

All speaking rooms are located on the second level of the Oakland Center. Each location will have a Room Moderator who will help to facilitate transitions between sessions.

Note your speaking or panel time and room as designated in the program. Please arrive at your room during the 10-minute break between sessions, come to the stage, and make yourself known to one of your Room Moderators, identifiable below.

The room setup will include a stage with a podium stand (for moderators or workshop facilitators), a panel table, and two-three handheld microphones. We do not expect presentations; these will be conversation-style panels.

For those of you speaking in the Ballroom, remember that all remarks will be livestreamed to virtual attendees tuning in via Zoom and recorded to revisit afterward.

    TABLERS

Pack up all your best swag to interact with 400+ in-person attendees! We've secured a window from 1 to 4 p.m. the day before, Thursday, June 1st, for you to safely drop off your tabling materials to store overnight in a locked room. Please plan to bring them to Ambassador Room B, room 158, on the main level of the Oakland Center. Contact Denise at 217-899-6959 if you need assistance gaining access to the room.

Eight-foot tables with two chairs will be provided. With 30 wonderful organizations joining us, we've opted to assign tables for ease and efficiency of setup. See here the map and key to help identify your group's location Friday morning.

Doors to the Oakland Center will open at 8:00 AM. We encourage you to come early to check in and set up your station by 8:15 AM.

Lastly (but surely not least!), please plan ahead to offer a unique action prompt to be performed by Summit participants visiting your table. It can be as simple as taking a step to uncover more fun facts about your own organization. We are arranging a digital and physical space, as part of an art installation, where attendees can document the actions they devoted their time to during the day, and will culminate the Summit with these commitments to climate activism.

Takedown: We hope you will stay all day and would love to have you rallying around a celebration of our participants' actions during the reception – but do what you can, of course, and please keep in mind all materials must be removed from the Oakland Center by 8 p.m. at the latest.

    VOLUNTEERS

Prep Day - Thursday, June 1: MiCAN staff and the Summit planning committee will be at the Oakland Center from 1 to 4 p.m. to preview the rooms and logistics and assist sponsors with dropping off tabling materials, and we will be hosting all volunteers during this time.

There is a mandatory ALL VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION meeting in which we will review this schedule, the description of all roles, and the basic run of show for the next day, Summit proper. Details below:

Event Day - Friday, June 2

For set up crew, please arrive at 7:00 AM. Everyone else, please arrive when the doors open at 8:00 AM or before your assigned role begins. Make yourself known to the folks at the registration table that you are a volunteer, and then find the station area to which you are assigned.

Volunteers will receive an orange lanyard for their name tag and an orange button, so folks know you are there to help. [Including yourself! – Look for others with an orange button and lanyard when navigating to your station, and contact Denise (217-899-6959) if anything comes up.]

Bring a smile and some patience, and prepare to be fulfilled by helping others enjoy the day to the fullest!

    THANK YOU!
