This is a critical moment. Attorney General Dana Nessel is taking legal action to shut down Line 5. Word is Gov. Whitmer won't be joining the lawsuit which is a serious problem. She must join the lawsuit to give her the strongest case possible to shut down Line 5.

Gov. Whitmer must join the lawsuit before Thursday, June 27. Please call her office and report your call here.

Call Gov. Whitmer: 517-373-3400

Use the following TALKING POINTS to help develop your message:

  • As Governor of Michigan, it is your job to protect the Great Lakes from a massive Line 5 oil spill. You ought to be leading on this issue instead of relying solely on the Attorney General.
  • Please stand up for the Great Lakes by revoking Enbridge’s easement to operate in the Straits of Mackinac and moving forward with decommissioning the Line 5 pipeline immediately.
  • The people of Michigan elected you to protect our Great Lakes, and we’re with you on this. Please don't give in to pressure from a foreign oil company and their allies who want to continue profiteering from the exploitation of our natural resources. The threats to the Great Lakes and climate posed by this pipeline are simply too great to accept.

I took me 6-7 attempts to get through. Spoke to a nice young man – told him that I appreciated all of the Govs efforts to follow through on her campaign promise to shut down Line 5. Explained that was one of my MAIN motivators for casting my vote for her.

I do not support any additional pipeline or tunnel work to carry crude oil or oil products under the Great Lakes. Existing lines should not be allowed to be used until they rot as has been the case with Line 5 under the straights.

Use until failure is not a policy – it is disaster planning.

    Dear Governor Whitmer,

I think you are doing the right thing in establishing a UP task force to examine Line 5 propane alternatives, lower energy costs, and impacts with renewables and the new jobs and business potential that would comes with it. I think that we can all agree that we as a state should not be reliant on a Canadian oil firm for our energy needs, especially when it involves taking a major risk of oil spills in or Great Lakes. We have always been innovative and able to work out our own problems. I believe in Michigan’s ability to work through this on our own soil, creating our own jobs with our own best interests in the forefront.

Thank You for standing firmly with Michiganders!

We support the decommissioning of Line 5 ASAP and want to commend and support Gov Whitmer for her stance. Don’t let a Canadian oil company’s profits risk our Great lakes any longer! Thank you Gretchen!

Left a message for a staff member thanking her for the task force for alt energy for the UP. For her efforts to get Line 5 shut down ASAP and her efforts to fight Enbridge on a tunnel
