Earth Day River Clean-up: Turning Trash into Treasure in Eliza Howell Park will take place on April 20, 10am-2pm (rain date May 4). This event will be focused on the beautiful Rouge River and will be the kick off of our Eco-artist residency with Halima Cassells.
Participants and community members will join forces to rescue materials from the Rouge River, embarking on the start of turning trash into treasure for the newest upcycled art installation at the park. The collected materials will be repurposed to construct an art installation that will raise awareness about the impact of microplastics on the environment and the importance of sustainable practices for keeping our earth clean.
Activities will include wading into the river to pull out trash (waders provided; interested adult participants only), carrying the trash to the road, cleaning select materials in preparation for the art installation, cleaning and clearing the nature trail, and a citizen science opportunity where participants will help identify plants using inaturalist.org.
