Tell Congress: we need relief from high energy bills!
Overview
Clean energy remains one of the cheapest, most reliable energy sources – helping to both lower families’ utility bills while also reducing our reliance on dirty, more expensive fossil fuels that contribute to the climate crisis.
Nonetheless, the Trump administration and Congress took an axe to clean energy in 2025. Now, with new legislation to restore clean energy tax credits and more about to be introduced in the House via the Energy Bills Relief Act (EBRA), we’re at a critical juncture in the clean energy story.

What Would the Bill Do?
If passed, the bill would amplify renewable energy and bring down costs, all while fighting climate change. The bill contain provisions that would:
- Provide energy assistance to millions of households
- Boost cost-saving energy efficiency programs
- Ensure hyperscale AI data centers don’t drive up residential energy bills
- Deepen investments in cost-effective renewable energy
- Boost community-owned solar
- Upgrade our electrical grid to fast-track more clean energy
Why does it need to be passed now?
Utility affordability is under threat in Michigan — and across the nation. DTE and Consumers Energy have both filed for massive back-to-back rate increases, just days after their last increases took effect. Michigan’s residential electric bills have increased over 114% in the last two decades, more than ten times the increase for other types of electricity users. This problem is made worse by extreme weather and aging infrastructure, hitting those who can afford it least the hardest. Yet, we know there is a better path forward.
The Energy Bills Relief Act is one of the most direct paths Congress has to deliver real relief to real people — while moving America toward a clean energy future. But it needs a groundswell of public support to pass. Your signature sends a clear message to your representatives: act now.
