About MiCAN
Amplify. Connect. Support.

The Michigan Climate Action Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with more than 180 member organizations and 20,000 citizens, founded in 2015.
Our Work
Our mission is to amplify, connect, and support the people, organizations, and communities demanding urgent, bold, and equitable solutions for a just transition to a resilient future.
MiCAN’s story begins with a group of volunteers and advocates traveling on a bus from Michigan to the People’s Climate March, and envisioning a network that could help support climate action across the state. They imagined a stronger, more connected climate movement taking root across Michigan. Over the next decade, MiCAN grew into a powerful statewide network and trusted voice for climate action.
Today, it continues to lead in the tradition of supporting bottom-up climate organizing through its programs, including:
- the annual Michigan Climate Summit
- supporting climate-focused creative and cultural projects
- Supporting the fight against Line 5
- Advocating for Equity and Climate Justice
- Building Movement Infrastructure for Climate Action in Michigan
Our Mission
Our mission is to amplify, connect, and support the people, organizations, and communities demanding urgent, bold, and equitable solutions for a just transition to a resilient future.
Our Vision
By 2042, we will have established Michigan as a leader in equitable climate solutions and achieved durable, diverse, and widespread public support for a just transition, ensuring a sustainable home for all Michiganders.

MiCAN is the hub of Michigan’s climate movement. On our website, climate leaders can access a wide range of resources, including archived videos featuring experts and grassroots groups from across the state. We also produce deep-dive series on critical topics—like the Line 5 fight and false vs. justice-based climate solutions—that cut through noise and greenwashing to deliver clear, actionable information on climate adaptation and resilience.
You can explore all of this on our site, join our virtual community to connect with other climate leaders, and stay updated through our social media and email list, where we share the latest news, events, and analysis to help you make informed decisions in your community.
What kind of climate issues does MiCAN focus on?
MiCAN is focused on amplifying, supporting, and connecting Michigan’s climate movement. Our core goal is to provide the infrastructure and coordination needed for the movement to reach its full potential across the state.
Many of the issues we work on have statewide or far-reaching impacts. We are deeply involved in the fight against Line 5, and we travel across Michigan documenting the energy landscape and the ways people are experiencing and responding to it.
MiCAN is also committed to uplifting justice-based climate solutions. Through our educational series, we debunk false solutions that won’t meaningfully address the climate crisis—or that fail to center fairness and equity for impacted communities.
What does the MiCAN Network Do?
As Michigan’s statewide climate hub, MiCAN connects members and partners, promotes community climate conversations, and helps mobilize collective climate action. Activities to support the network include:
- Coordinating statewide and regional partners
- Maintaining an organizational member directory
- Offering digital platforms for connection and knowledge-sharing
- Supporting a shared climate agenda
Together, our members are building a stronger, more connected climate movement across Michigan — empowering bold, equitable action for a just and resilient future.
