Lake State Labs

Richard Boehnke, the founder of Lake State Labs, is a strategic thinker dedicated to creating the grid of the 21st century. He is currently focused on enabling Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) at the local and state levels, with expertise in the design, implementation, and regulation of these systems. Though these aggregations are not necessarily virtual nor power plants, they have immense potential to help solve the 21st century challenges of affordability, reliability, and resilience. Richard served as the Director of Demand Flexibility Markets at Recurve, where he led the design, development, and implementation of the Demand FLEXmarkets, a technology-agnostic Virtual Power Plant from the business unit’s inception to the delivery of over $35 million in system benefits within 18 months of the initial launch. Currently, Richard is focused on the critical challenge of converting the immense potential energy of this moment into the kinetic energy required to create a resilient grid for the 21st century.
