Dr. Nichole Keway Biber is a tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (Waganakising Odawa) and is a member of the Turtle Clan (Mishiike Dodem). Her family currently resides in East Lansing, where she earned her PhD in English from Michigan State University (MSU). In September 2023, Nichole began working for Clean Water Action as the Mid-Michigan Campaign Organizer, continuing her efforts as a Water Protector in the fight to shut down Line 5. She is dedicated to opposing threats to traditional lifeways and the well-being of every community in the Great Lakes water basin and beyond.
Nichole has a strong background as a grassroots environmental activist, focusing on biodiversity restoration, including plants, pollinators, and animals. She also leads the Wolf and Wildlife Preservation Team for the Michigan Anishinaabek Caucus. As a jingle dress dancer and a mother of three, Nichole is committed to playing her part in our collective responsibility to choose a path of renewal at this critical time in our relationship with the living planet.
