Serena Amdur
Cultural Curator
Michigan Climate Action Network

As MiCAN’s Cultural Curator, Serena Amdur’s mission is to leverage art, culture, and creative voices to inspire, connect, and mobilize Michiganders, fostering the emotional resilience and sustained engagement needed for a deep cultural transformation toward a just and sustainable future for all. Her natural interest in community resiliency, local climate solutions, and the power of culture led her to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Macalester College, with an emphasis on cultural sustainability and a minor in Food, Agriculture, and Society.
Serena attended high school in the Netherlands, which provided one of many opportunities to experience how societies differ in their perceptions and interactions with their environments. She also has cross-cultural experience, having spent time with her family in Taiwan, grown up in a multicultural family in the north suburbs of Chicago, and studied food security, nutrition, and sustainable development in Geneva, Switzerland, during her college years. Now, in northern Michigan, where she spent her summers growing up, she recalls how the area sparked her passion for environmental preservation.
Serena is an avid reader, cook, and language learner in her free time.
