Virtual public input

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy’s Office of Climate and Energy, along with councils of government and community-based organizations, is holding five in-person sessions plus two virtual sessions to gain input from the general public on strategic, equitable implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan (MHCP). Released in 2021 after a rigorous, statewide stakeholder engagement process, the MHCP underscores the urgent need for action on climate and identifies bold, necessary, and strategic measures to deliver a carbon neutral economy. The MHCP identifies actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50-52% from 2005 baselines by 2030 in an equitable manner.

Register to Attend Virtually December 18th

In preparation for competitive federal funding as part of the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) Program, we are seeking feedback to prioritize key strategies in the MHCP with greatest near-term GHG reduction measures. Your feedback will help us deliver outcomes that curb the worst impacts of climate change, improve public health, create economic opportunity, lower costs, protect our natural resources, and make investments to address historical, current, and future environmental injustices. These investments will also position Michigan’s communities and Michiganders for leadership in the years and decades ahead.

Note: These public input sessions are on an accelerated timeline due to the requirements put forth in the CPRG by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  If you cannot attend any of these sessions, scroll down to the end of this page to see other ways to provide input.

The 5 in-person engagements will be held across Michigan to diversify input and provide localized context.  The agenda will start with education around the MHCP and progress on goals, with most of the session focused on hearing top priorities in your community, barriers to implementation, and environmental justice considerations in formulating potential implementation projects.  Each session will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.

Snacks and beverages will be available at each session.  Registration is requested for planning purposes.

EGLE will host two virtual public input sessions for members of the general public who could not make the regional in-person meetings to provide their input on priorities, barriers, and environmental justice considerations EGLE should consider in planning.
