Fossil fuel giant Enbridge has just submitted permits to the Michigan DNR to construct a tunnel for their Line 5 oil pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac. If allowed to be constructed, not only will their pipeline be allowed to operate for another decade during construction, but a tunnel will lock us into another century of climate-heating fossil fuels coursing through our state.

Governor Whitmer:
As COVID-19 remains an immediate threat to the health and safety of all Michiganders, I urge you to take steps now to prevent another disaster from unfolding. It is impossible to lead on climate change while allowing a tunnel to be constructed by Enbridge in the Straits of Mackinac. A tunnel will lock in a century-long threat to our climate and will impede the necessary transition to the clean energy economy that the science of climate change demands.
I urge you to stop the permit process allowing Enbridge to build a fossil-fuel tunnel for their Line 5 pipeline.
