Update: The White House just released the full framework of the now-$1.75 trillion social safety net and climate bill. This includes a whopping $555 billion for clean energy and climate justice, and Congress is reportedly finally nearing a vote on this historic bill.
This is the biggest opportunity in over a decade to tackle the climate crisis, and would be a huge step toward the climate reductions needed to keep warming to 1.5 degrees. And it will be voted on any day now. We cannot miss this chance for climate action.
The reconciliation package will include provisions such as clean energy tax credits, the development of a Civilian Climate Corps, action that addresses environmental injustice, investments in a clean energy economy, and the creation of hundreds of thousands of good-paying union jobs that benefit disadvantaged communities. So now we must pass this bill.
We have seen numerous attempts from lobbyists to water down the provisions of the bill, as well as roadblocks put up by a few key Democratic members of Congress to block the bold climate provisions that we must pass. While we are very hopeful at this stage, we need every single pro-climate vote and Michigan is a key state. We have to make sure our Members of Congress hear from us right now.
Please take two minutes to tell your Members of Congress to support the reconciliation package that includes major climate funding!
The latest IPCC report makes clear: we have a narrow window - right now - for serious action to avoid the worst impacts of our overheating planet. The time is now to let Congress know that we support action on climate.
