The Michigan Court of Appeals decided on Thursday in favor of Enbridge’s right to apply for federal and state permits for Line 5 tunnel oil construction. Kate Madigan, MiCAN's director issued the following statement:
“The latest court decision does not change the fact that Enbridge’s proposed Line 5 oil tunnel through the Great Lakes would be harmful to Michigan’s future. We will continue to do as the science demands and fight this oil tunnel every step of the way.
TAKE ACTION
Send a Message to Gov. Whitmer and your state rep and senator to act on the climate crisis and shut down Line 5 without building a tunnel
"The science is clear that we must cut fossil fuel use in half this decade to prevent the worst effects of an overheating climate as we are already seeing devastating wildfires, floods, and other severe impacts around the world and even here in Michigan. Building new oil infrastructure now is dangerous, irresponsible, and out of touch with the grim reality of the climate crisis. We are counting on Gov. Whitmer to recognize that the state should instead be investing in clean energy technologies that will create good-paying jobs, improve health by reducing pollution, and work to leave a stable climate for our children.”
