I’m would like to make another more substantial donation. But I’m a bit queered out by your anti-nuclear stance. That is so 1985.

100% Renewable energy is a scam put on by the Frack Gas industry, that funds Stanford’s Precourt Energy institute (look it up!) and spends $1 billion per year on PR for RE. The oil majors push RE for a reason— it is half natural (frack) gas by the time it reaches a customer. Because of intermittency getting filled in by the “reliable” toxic greenhouse gas business.

That’s why 100% clean energy is the right goal.

To get there we need some new design nuclear power.

It is also stupid to shut down existing nuclear but it won’t matter as much after new designs are running.

We should not be arguing about the 1980’s designs for nuclear. There is lots of stuff we can do after half a century of tech. See http://TerrestrialEnergy.com, ThorCon Energy, Terrapower, ARC Nuclear, New brunswick, Elysium, UltraSafe Nuclear,

    And DeepIsolation.com for waste storage.

20 years from now, all those wind farms will be converted to more valuable real estate. No one will still want them in their backyards anymore.

China is going to build MSR nuclear reactors, clean and safe and cheap, and if the USA doesn’t… we will buy them from China.

    But is nuclear safe? http://GotNuclear.net

I thought you might be interested in my book due out soon from Dorrance, “1001 Energy Tips.” It has hundreds of no-cost energy-saving ideas, and the remainder are low-cost projects – at home, at work, in your lifestyle, and on the road. There are also “Future Tech!” ideas at the end of each section to develop better technologies and, overall, to make substantial progress on combating climate change. You can download the final galley proofs at:

In a post on Facebook you refer to a 1% cap on rooftop solar in Michigan, but you do not explain at all what it is. There certainly is no law that says only 1% of homeowners can install solar collectors. Does it have to do with net metering, or what? You really need to explain this better when you post something like this and ask people to sign a petition. I did not sign it because it was so unclear to me what you are talking about. (My household makes all the electricity we use from solar, so please don’t misunderstand my sympathies here.)

My name is Christian. I’m a freelance videographer working on a documentary exploring the impacts of climate change in Michigan. I am looking for contacts in the climate action space who could advise me of the important topics and issues I should cover in this film. Are there individuals within the MCAN network you could connect me with to point me in the right direction? If anyone reading has leads or would like to contribute, please let me know!

I am part of a recent group of natural resource professionals promoting biochar as a local soil amendment. I serve as the District Forester for the Leelanau, Benzie and Grand Traverse Conservation Districts and the others on the new team are looking for collaboration with other local environmental groups interested in local responses and action to mitigate the stressors of climate change for the ag community and forest landowners. We wondered if we could connect with your group and share our thoughts on using waste from our forests and orchards to produce biochar as a great way to improve our sustainable practices.

My name is Brandi Crawford-Johnson and I’m fighting for environmental justice for my community in Kalamazoo. One of our polluters, Graphic Packaging International is being allowed to expand next to our fence line community despite hundreds of air complaints. The city is cutting down 721 trees for this polluter. EGLE approved a permit for them to increase their greenhouse emissions by 221%. This will affect all Michiganders. We must fight against this!

News from DeepGreen Metals Inc, Vancouver:

Research shows up to 90% carbon footprint reduction for critical minerals for electric vehicle batteries when sourcing them from deep-sea polymetallic nodules compared to conventionally mined land ores

Polymetallic nodules from the Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ) of the Pacific Ocean contain rich concentrations of four metals required for EVs in a single ore, including nickel, a crucial ingredient in EV batteries, which will increasingly be mined from beneath large forested carbon sinks in tropical areas like Indonesia and the Philippines

As governments scramble to secure supplies of critical minerals to build renewable infrastructure, the paper analyzes the planetary-scale and full lifecycle climate impacts of producing these metals

Hi, I’m the events coordinator for the University of New Mexico Press. I’m looking for opportunities for virtual lectures with author and NMU professor James McCommons about his latest book Camera Hunter: George Shiras III and the Birth of Wildlife Photography sometime in the fall. I’m writing to see if Michigan Climate Action Network would be interested in co-hosting.

If you’re interested, all that would be entailed is a helping us publicize the event to your members and possibly supplying someone to lead a virtual discussion about the book with Jim. Ideally this would be in conjunction with a Michigan bookstore that can host on Zoom or Facebook Live.

I can send a physical copy or digital PDF of the book to anyone who would want to participate. You can learn more about the book at the link below, which chronicles the environmental and photographic contributions of Shiras, a Michigan lawyer, conservationist, and photographer who innovated nighttime photography and worked with Roosevelt to pass important environmental legislation.
